With the craze for documentaries on Nathan Fielder and Elizabeth Holmes, currently in the United States, Paramount/Legendary/Capcom’s Street fighter was the leader of the BO world weekend with a $51.1 million global opening. From that $20.1 million came from 65 markets with the lion’s share in the United States with $31 million.

Once again, this is a good point in relation to what Street fighter did so in his last big screen appearance with Jean-Claude Van Damme in 1994, that picture opening to $6.8 million domestically and ending its run at $33.4 million in the United States and $99.4 million worldwide (all unadjusted for inflation and currency fluctuations).

However Street fighterThe first round of financing is lower than expectations (a global opening of 70 million dollars was hoped), I understand that this net production of 82 million dollars will ultimately be good after all the accessories, according to those in the know. For Skydance-owned Paramount, this is a distribution deal. Capcom and Legendary co-financed the film.

Why an opening lower than expected? It was basically the older fans who showed up and no one else. Additionally, with a PG-13 rating, it is hoped that a wider family audience will come for Street fighter in a way they couldn’t for R-rated Mortal combat, based on another Gen X video game.

The opening announced on Mortal Kombat II was $63 million WW with $23 million from 78 territories on 31,000 screens. At constant scope, Street fighterThe $20.1 million overseas startup is 4% ahead of Mortal Kombat 2 and 2% ahead of A free guy.

Street fighter was filmed for Imax, which grossed $7.7 million on its worldwide network; broken down, that’s $5.4 million in North America (18% of the weekend) and $2.3 million from 471 offshore screens.

No. 1 openings were in the United Kingdom ($3.3 million from 593 locations), Mexico ($1.8 million from 865 locations), Australia ($1.6 million from 260 locations), Panama ($228,000) and Taiwan ($235,000 from 90 locations) and Indonesia with $384,000 from 480 theaters.

No. 2 were Brazil ($1.2k from 726 sites), Malaysia ($491k from 138 sites), Hong Kong ($201k from 55 sites), Thailand ($200k from 257 sites) as well as the United Arab Emirates with $705k from 58 sites. Overall, the total Middle East region brought in $1.4 million.

The film directed by Kitao Sakurai was No. 3 in Germany ($850,000 in 436 theaters), in the Philippines with $275,000 in 206 theaters and in Colombia with $227,000.

The riots raging against the police have slowed down cinema attendance in France where Street fighter was No. 4 with $1.1 million from 355 locations. Spain was also 4th with $550,000 in 298 sites, in addition to the Netherlands with $314,000 in 86 sites.

In Japan, Street fighter was the second MPA title on the market with $875,000 from 333 locations for a #5 ranking. Additionally, the film tanked in Italy with $451,000 from 250 locations. Korea was not at the forefront of the film with a #8 opening of $242,000 from 435 locations. Meanwhile in India, Street fighter made $431,000 in 1,064 locations; this is where the action title directed by Nelson Dilipkumar Jailer 2 ruled with an estimate $18 million (and worldwide around $32 million for rank no. 2). We will have more official figures on Jailer 2 of Rentrak later.
