Golden State Valkyries win WNBA title by defeating Atlanta Dream
The Golden State Valkyries won the NBA women’s title in their second season with a 68-63 victory over the Atlanta Dream.
After the Dream evened the seven-game series on Thursday, Gabby Williams starred for the Valkyries with 30 points to seal the victory in the first game seven in WNBA Finals history.
Williams also won the WNBA Finals Most Valuable Player award.
βItβs easy when the energy is this good and positive,β Williams said. I wouldn’t change anything.
“All it took was good people. We have winners, we have people who are willing to put their body on the floor to win a game.
“They don’t care about scoring. They just want to defend and rebound. Do whatever it takes and we’ve built a great culture here.”
Twenty-eight of Williams’ points came in the second half, including a three-pointer with just over two minutes left to trail the Dream’s 57 by 60 points, before free throws from Tiffany Hayes and Veronica Burton closed out the victory.
The Valkyries are the WNBA’s newest team, formed in 2024 and won in front of a packed house of more than 18,000 fans at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
This is the fourth time Dream has lost the final in its 18-year history.
