Google confirms something is draining Pixel Watch batteries, fix deployed

Google has confirmed that some Pixel Watches are experiencing unexpected battery drain, but it also says a fix is already available.
Last week we reported on a trending complaint about the Pixel Watch: sudden and unusual battery drain. Numerous articles and comments on sites like Reddit have suggested that Pixel Watch users are noticing slight battery usage, leaving them with less than half of their normal usage.
Google contacted 9to5Google with a statement shortly after the problem surfaced, noting that he was aware of the problem. Yesterday, it said that a fix for the Pixel Watch’s battery drain issue was rolling out. The update should appear for all users “over the next few days.”
The fix for the battery drain issue, affecting a small number of Pixel Watch users, has started rolling out and will be completed over the next few days. To implement the fix, please update your Pixel Watch apps by pressing the crown of your Pixel Watch, opening the Play Store app, and tapping Manage Apps > Update All.
– Google spokesperson
The drop in battery life didn’t affect every Pixel Watch, but a number of users of models like the Pixel Watch 2 and above were more than enough to suggest that something other than hardware was causing the problem.
Google did not specify the origin of the problem or whether it came from a recent Wear OS update. It’s possible that it was one of the Pixel Watch’s proprietary apps, or something general software that was demanding too much background power.
In any case, this software update should fix any unexpected battery drain on affected Pixel Watch models and should be available before your Pixel Watch can run out of power again.
