Google launches Gemini 4 Carbon with “significant advancement” in cybersecurity
The new Gemini 4 Carbon model offers improvements over Argon, released by Google earlier this month. It is currently only available to a select group of cybersecurity defense companies, but will eventually be expanded to other partners in its Fairwind program.
The company says Carbon reflects the “pace at which we are pushing boundaries,” accompanied by a “significant leap” in cyber defense that better detects vulnerabilities and generates secure code. Carbon currently holds the top spot on SEC-bench Pro, a benchmark that measures an AI model’s ability to discover real-world bugs, and on ExploitGym, which measures how a model can turn a vulnerability into exploits.
Google says Gemini 4 Carbon is designed to tackle longer tasks, adding that its internal teams have seen it “run for days persisting through dead ends and tackling complex, multi-step engineering tasks.” According to Google, it is also better at avoiding shortcuts, resisting rapid injection attacks, and collaborating with users. Carbon is also said to provide more “transparency and honesty,” reducing “unsubstantiated claims” by half compared to Argon.
It will launch at the same competitive launch price as Argon, at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens.
