Google Wallet for Android adds 12th digital state ID

After the last launch in late August, Google Wallet is rolling out support for Oklahoma State IDs on Android.
Open Google Wallet on your phone and tap the “more” button next to “Show more” at the bottom > ID and personal information > Driver’s license or state ID. This reveals Oklahoma as the 13th Google Wallet option. It joins Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio and Puerto Rico.
The map design shows the American bison (state animal) and the scissor-tailed flycatcher (state bird).
The setup process requires taking photos of the front and back of your physical card, as well as a short video of your face for verification which is sent to the SOK. This review may take a few minutes with notification confirming availability. You will also receive a confirmation email from the state agency.
- First, tap the reader or scan your QR code: Your personal information will not yet be shared. On your phone, check the information you want to share.
- Next, check what information will be shared: Make sure you are comfortable sharing the requested information
- You don’t need to trust your phone to anyone: Your ID will be shared securely via Bluetooth, so make sure it’s enabled
- Finally, check that it is you who is sharing your information: For added security, verify that this ID is yours using your face, fingerprint, password or PIN.
“Details” next to “Show Code” lets you enable an “Activity History,” while “Driver’s License Information” lists the license number, expiration date, address, and more.
Credentials can be read via NFC or by scanning the QR code. It is accepted in certain airports by the TSA. Officially, you must always carry your ID card with you, because the one on your phone “does not replace the requirement for individuals to carry a physical card.”
Your device must be running Android 8+ and have a screen lock, with Bluetooth and nearby devices enabled. A State ID can be removed from Google Wallet at any time or remotely via myaccount.google.com. As a private pass, it is not synced with the cloud and is only available on one device.
- Tap Personal Information.
- Scroll down to “Digital ID”.
- Tap Manage digital ID.
- Next to the ID or license you want to remove, tap Remove.
- Confirm that you want to remove your ID from your device and your Google account.
