Google’s more personalized Gemini AI is heading to your car
Google brings personal intelligence to Gemini AI in your car. With this update, Gemini in Android Auto and cars with Google built-in can access your information in Google apps, including Gmail, Calendar, Maps, Photos, YouTube and Search.
As an example, Google says you can ask Gemini about your flight status if you’re driving to the airport. The AI assistant can extract your flight details from a confirmation message in Gmail, then use that information to find the status. You can also ask Gemini to “take me to my doctor’s appointment” instead of manually displaying directions, or ask it to “find the car wash from the photo I took last week and navigate to it.”
Google says it will connect your apps to Gemini only if you enable its Personal Intelligence setting. It will also share personalized responses only if your phone is connected to your car. “If you don’t use personal intelligence, everything in the car still works: you can use navigation, listen to music, make calls and ask questions, but the answers won’t be tailored to you,” Google says.
Personal Intelligence is rolling out today to Android Auto, with support for cars with Google built in in the coming months.
