We love it when Google releases a little gaming Easter egg. We had the printable search engine screen for Splatoon 3, the various Pokémon collaborations, and even a Katamari crossover. But now Google has delivered the most nostalgic of all.

If you search for “Ocarina of Time” on Google, you will now come across a small Master Sword icon in the bottom right corner. Clicking on said icon pushes the sword back into its pedestal and transports the search engine with it to the past.

Just like that, your search looks straight out of 1998, with blocky site links, a particularly nostalgic search bar, and a Google logo with an old-fashioned exclamation point. Good.

Just when we thought we couldn’t be more excited about Ocarina of Time launching on Switch 2 this week, we were wrong again…

Don’t give me hope, Google. We all know that we now live in a dystopian internet age, ravaged by AI bots and algorithms that have increased polarization by a factor of billions.

Make this a permanent feature so I can pretend AI doesn’t exist, please!

Ooccoo_Jr

Good. The search also returns “1,998” results and takes “0.64” seconds.

I can’t see it myself (I guess I’m blocking it somehow), so thanks for the photos here that show it – anyway, a pretty cool Easter egg and man, I’m looking forward to the Ocarina remake!

Great, if this also disables all the crap Google currently uses, make it a permanent feature please. Honestly… I know it’s the lesser of two evils, but if I need to search for something these days, ChatGPT gives me better links than Google. It completely fell into the water.

Ahhhh ❤️😊… No AI, no social media, no algorithms, no influencers, no crypto scams, no manosphere, no podbros, no Rampocalypse, back when the internet was actually fun and fancy, unlike today. 😌

I saw this last night and no one online seemed to be talking about it! I love all the details of this Easter egg!

We’re on the wrong timeline, maybe a hero will rise up and fix it

timp29

Does it also slow down by a factor of 1000%? I think I was on a dial-up modem

Failover

Ah, the internet before corporate greed, social media, AI and everything else ruined everything. It was such a cool place, full of independent websites, blogs, and total randomness.
Some of it still exists, if you can find it.

Once in a blue moon, Google always does something right.

Cool music

Ahh simpler times, how I miss you…😭
A cool Easter egg, by the way.
