Halle Berry is accused of abusing her 12-year-old son by her ex-husband, actor Olivier Martinez, who filed a request for a temporary restraining order against the actress.
Martinez alleges that on September 26, the “Catwoman” actress “physically abused our son Maceo by jumping on him, putting her hands around his neck and choking him.” Martinez is seeking sole custody, which would change their current arrangement.
Berry’s attorney, Marina Beck, responded to the filing, saying in a statement: “To say that this filing is completely baseless and deliberately misleading would be an understatement. There is ample evidence, including numerous court rulings, that Olivier Martinez repeatedly violated court orders and interfered with necessary therapeutic and educational interventions to the detriment of his and Halle Berry’s minor son, Maceo – a misconduct for which Mr. Martinez has already been legally sanctioned.
Beck’s statement continued: “In some ways, today’s filing is not entirely unexpected from someone with a well-documented history of erratic, possessive and violent behavior. Fortunately, Halle is accustomed to this kind of outrageous conduct from Mr. Martinez and, while she is deeply saddened, she will not allow this to deter her from fighting for Maceo’s best interests and providing him with the love and support he needs.”
In the request for a restraining order, Martinez claims there have been “other instances of abuse over the past several years. These other incidents involve additional physical attacks on our son, as well as verbal and emotional abuse by Petitioner towards me.”
For example, Martinez alleges that Berry “told our son that I was ‘a white bitch trying to steal from a black woman’ due to child support issues. Ms. Berry then asked our son, ‘How do you feel about this as a black man?'”
Martinez wrote in the filing that Berry texted him to apologize after the incident. “I don’t want
permanently sever the relationship between our son and (Berry), but I do not think they should interact with each other until petitioner can take sufficient responsibility for her actions,” he wrote.
Martinez also requested that Berry be ordered not to be under the influence of alcohol or other substances while visiting their son.
“I think he may be traumatized by the incident” and does not want to spend time at her house, Martinez said in the filing.
Berry and Martinez filed for divorce in 2015 after being married for two years. Berry also has an 18-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
Representatives for Berry did not respond to request for comment.
