HBO Max and Paramount Plus will merge into one streamer under Skydance
HBO Max and Paramount Plus to become one streaming service as part of Warner Bros. acquisition Discovery by Paramount for $110 billion. In a press release announcing the finalization of the deal, Skydance – the name of the merged companies – says the two streamers “will unify into a single service over time.”
Skydance CEO David Ellison hinted at the possibility in March, saying on a call with investors that the merger of Paramount Plus and HBO Max would give the combined companies “just over 200 million direct-to-consumer subscribers.” There are still no details on the timeline for this change, nor who the merged streamers will be, which HBO CEO Casey Bloys will oversee.
Merging the two streamers could help them compete with Netflix, which last reported having 325 million subscribers in January. The move will bring together the best shows from both services onto one platform, including titles like Mobland, Yellow stone, The White LotusAnd Dragon House.
