He found $128,000 in cash at the ATM and returned it

A Lewisville, Texas, man stopped at an ATM to withdraw cash and found a bag filled with more than $128,000 in cash sitting on top of the machine, reports The United States today. He ended up turning over every dollar to the police. “I’ve never had a case like this before,” Lewisville Police Detective Gina Miller told CBS News. It was apparently a case of monumental distraction: Police said a Brinks technician was servicing the Bank of America ATM and left the cash there — along with another bag containing 19 checks — when he left.

The Good Samaritan was identified only as a 37-year-old local barber. Before calling police, he first took the bag of money to a nearby Chick-fil-A because a tag on the bag suggested it belonged to the restaurant. When a manager told him it wasn’t theirs, the man called 911 and officers discovered the truth of the mystery. It is not yet known whether he will get any reward.
