Honey, Xbox has shrunk its controller
Microsoft today officially announced its Xbox Nano Controller, a smaller, less expensive controller designed to fit in your pocket. The more compact controller is also designed for “young gamers, smaller hands, or anyone looking for something portable for gaming on the go.”
The $49.99 Xbox Nano is Microsoft’s smallest controller, and it’s shorter than most smartphones at just over five inches in length. It has all the usual buttons you’ll find on a normal Xbox controller, plus Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth support for connecting to Xbox consoles and phones, tablets, and PCs.
The Xbox Nano controller also includes a rechargeable battery and does not require AA batteries or a separate charging pack like most Xbox controllers. Microsoft also added a programmable action button to the Xbox Nano controller that can be customized to take screenshots, capture gameplay, and other Xbox shortcuts.
The Xbox Nano initially leaked earlier this year with what looked like a small screen to indicate connectivity to the cloud or console. This screen is not part of this final shipping model, however. The rest of the controller looks identical to the leaks, including a USB-C port on the back and a pairing button.
