Despite Hurricane Isaias strengthening into a Category 3 storm on Friday with evacuations underway on the Gulf Coast, Alabama has not changed its plans for its Saturday night game against Georgia as school and SEC officials continue to monitor the impact of the storm.

Hurricane Isaias is expected to make landfall Friday evening around Pensacola, Florida, with an estimated rain total of nearly 15 inches and a chance of tornadoes, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm would remain stable with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph, in addition to higher gusts.

Noon Friday, Rice at East Carolina is the only FBS game that has changed its Saturday kickoff time due to the hurricane. The Pirates will face the Olws at 1 p.m. ET in Greenville, North Carolina, instead of the scheduled 4 p.m. time.

Bethune Cookman at Alabama A&M, another Alabama game scheduled for Saturday night, is keeping its originally scheduled 7 p.m. Central time kickoff despite calls of up to three inches of rain in Huntsville.

Saturday’s matches affected by Hurricane Isaias

  • North East State to West Florida: The Argonauts canceled their non-conference game in Pensacola out of an abundance of caution and are not expected to set a make-up date.
  • Florida A&M at Alabama State: Saturday’s Southwestern Athletic Conference game at Montgomery was pushed back to Friday afternoon before the hurricane approached. The school has rescheduled all additional homecoming events planned throughout the weekend.
  • South at Prairie View A&M: Officials in Prairie View, Texas, are monitoring the hurricane and moved its game against Southern back an hour to 4 p.m. ET on Saturday.
  • Davidson at Presbyterian: Kickoff was moved up to noon ET in South Carolina, 5.5 hours earlier than originally scheduled.
  • East Tennessee State at The Citadel: This Southern Conference game in Charleston, SC, will tip off at noon.
  • South Carolina State at Charleston Southern: Another contest scheduled in the Lowcountry, Charleston Southern moved up its noon kickoff after it was originally scheduled for a primetime kickoff.

The National Weather Service forecast office in Birmingham, Alabama, wrote in Friday’s update that the likely path of the hurricane cone would include central Alabama being hit Saturday afternoon before the storm crosses Tennessee early Sunday and hits Kentucky in the morning.

Residents of coastal areas of Alabama are currently under a hurricane warning.
