Amazon has revamped its entire Kindle e-reader lineup in honor of its 20th anniversary, and you can already buy the new models, although most won’t ship until the end of October.
On October 1, the company announced a newly redesigned basic Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Colorsoft, as well as kid-friendly versions of each. It’s also launching all-new Kindle accessories, including a page-turning remote called Kindle Click. (Mashable’s resident e-reader expert thinks one will sell like hotcakes. The new Kindles have thinner, lighter designs and come in new colors like Ube, Alpine Sky, and Sea Glass Green. The standard Kindle also now has a flush front display and an optional aluminum back, which was previously exclusive to the “Signature Editions” of the Kindle Paperwhite and Colorsoft.
Crushable speed of light
Amazon’s new e-readers cost the same as their predecessors, which recently saw price hikes of $30 to $50 due to the global memory shortage:

Meanwhile, new Kindle accessories start at $35. In addition to the Click remote, there is a new cover with physical buttons for turning pages and a charging stand for both versions of the Kindle Paperwhite. There’s also a new shoulder bag for the base Kindle, complete with its own miniature Kindle keychain.
The new standard Kindle and Kindle Kids are now available for immediate purchase through Amazon and Best Buy. The other new Kindles and most of their accessories are up for pre-order on Amazon before their joint release on Wednesday, October 28. We’ll be on the lookout for deals on them during Amazon’s upcoming Prime Big Deal Days sale.
Amazon hasn’t yet set a launch date for the charging stand, but shoppers can sign up to receive email notifications when it becomes available.
