Hurricane Isaias forces President Trump to change plans for Alabama-Georgia football game
President Donald Trump has canceled plans to attend Saturday’s Alabama-Georgia football game in Tuscaloosa.
“I’m going to miss this potentially incredible game,” Trump said Friday on Truth Social, saying first responders need to be able to focus on responding to Hurricane Isaias rather than safety.
Hurricane Isaias is expected to make landfall on the Gulf Coast Saturday morning.
Kickoff in Tuscaloosa is still scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Bryant-Denny Stadium. College GameDay will still be held on campus, but has moved indoors.
The president initially announced his intention to participate in the SEC game at a rally in Mobile last week.
Asked Wednesday morning about his plans for the weekend by CNN reporters, Trump said he would let the weather determine his attendance.
“I love Alabama. I have to go to a game,” he said.
