Husband of Hurricane Victim Watches His ‘Super Nice and Tough’ Wife Killed by Tree That Crashes Into Home
The husband of a woman killed in Florida by Hurricane Isaias over the weekend has described the horrific moment a fallen tree crashed onto their roof, crushing and killing his “super sweet and badass” wife.
Jenn Biggs Williams, 57, a human resources worker, had just entered her home with her husband of 10 years, Joey, after going out to survey the damage, when the large tree crashed into their living room, trapping them underneath.
“I made it out. My wife didn’t make it. The tree fell on her,” Joey told NewsNation.
He added that his only consolation was that Jenn’s death “was pretty instantaneous.”
Joey managed to get out and ask a neighbor for help, as 100 mph winds whipped his property.
“I’m like, ‘My wife is stuck under the tree. Please, please,’ and I mean, there’s nothing we can do,” he said.
By the time emergency services arrived and were able to cut down the tree and pull Jenn out, she was already dead.
“They let me say goodbye to her. I saw the love of my life for 10 years get in the back of a coroner’s van and drive down that road. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever swallowed in my life,” Joey said, adding that his wife had been loved by everyone.
“Everyone loved her, right? Even her coworkers. She was a super nice, badass person,” he said.
“I just want to hear her voice. I called her phone five times just to tell her… she was my world,” Joey said.
Jenn is the first known victim of Hurricane Isaias, with a second victim dying in Birmingham, Alabama, in connection with the weekend storm, the director of the Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency confirmed.
