WASHINGTON — The Trump administration’s investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) aims to build a case to strip her of her U.S. citizenship and ultimately deport her, according to U.S. officials and others familiar with the investigation.

This multi-pronged effort focuses at least in part on how Omar obtained his citizenship after arriving in the United States from Somalia several decades ago. Investigators are focusing on both the congresswoman and the actions of her deceased father, some people familiar with the matter said. Nur Omar Mohamed brought his daughter and other family members to the United States from a refugee camp in Kenya in 1995.
