President Donald Trump subjected the crowd at his Monday night rally in Ohio to absurd and bigoted rhetoric against Somalis.
“They think they’re in Somalia where they don’t have pants to wear,” Trump said of Somalis living in Minnesota. “They come here, they go in BMWs and Mercedes, and they love it. Somalia, they love Mercedes. They come here, they have nothing, and they are the number one buyers of Mercedes-Benzes and BMWs in the state of Minnesota. This whole thing is crazy! It’s crazy! Low IQ people.”
Trump has repeatedly insulted Somalis in the past, calling them “stupid people” who “come from a corrupt country.”
He also insulted Somali-American Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) at his rally.
“It’s a disaster,” he said. “She comes from a country without laws, without police, without an army, all they do is shoot each other. (…) She comes from one of the worst countries on the planet.”
Earlier today, agents from Homeland Security Investigations searched Omar’s home in Washington, DC. This investigation is believed to be linked to immigration documents filed by Omar’s now deceased father when she was a child. She described the raid as “an attempt to target political enemies and militarize federal law enforcement.”
