“I’m not bragging”: Trump renews his campaign for the Nobel Peace Prize

President Donald Trump is making a last-minute bid for the Nobel Peace Prize, arguing that he should win the prize to be awarded this week by a Norwegian organization for settling eight conflicts and intervening to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
Asked in the Oval Office about the prestigious prize that the Norwegian Nobel Institute will award on October 9, Trump alluded to the unresolved war between Russia and Ukraine that his administration is trying to stop and said he should win the prize for recovering Israeli hostages from Hamas.
“I’m not bragging. I’m just telling you the facts. No president has probably settled any wars. I’ve settled eight, and major ones,” Trump told reporters.
Trump has long complained about not winning the Nobel Peace Prize and campaigned intensely last year to be the winner.
He did not win, despite his efforts, and has since launched two military conflicts. One in Venezuela – which the US invaded in January and then arrested the country’s leader on drug charges – and another in Iran – which the US has been at war with since February, in part over the regime’s desire to pursue a nuclear program.
Trump renewed his complaints on October 7 that former President Barack Obama received the award during his first year in office. He also said he saved millions of lives and “possibly prevented the total annihilation of the world” through his attempt to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
“I don’t know what their decision will be. They have a reputation for not giving it to people like me. But whether I get it or not, I’ve done a lot more, and I think that would be a great discredit to them,” Trump said.
Last year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, presented her prize to Trump during a visit to the Oval Office, after the US operation in Caracas that allowed Delcy Rodriguez to claim power.
“And since then, we’ve done a lot of things,” Trump said.
