WOODLAND, California. —
Federal immigration agents struck a pedestrian in Woodland on Tuesday, videos obtained by KCRA 3 show. The Woodland Police Department and the U.S. Congressman who represents the area also acknowledge the situation.
The video shows a person, later identified as Antonio Moreida, approaching an unmarked black SUV in the middle of the street before it drives off. Moreida can be seen walking after the SUV, which went out of frame. Seconds later, another black SUV can be seen driving toward Moreida, hitting him and pushing him backwards. The pedestrian was left standing on the ground.
Moreida shared with KCRA 3 a phone recording from his GoPro, which also recorded the collision. (Watch this video below.)
Moreida said he came to the neighborhood after seeing reports of ICE activity.
NorCal Resist, a local advocacy group, shared these updates on social media. Community observers then come to check if federal immigration agents are in the area.
“They ended up going out into the street, trying to take off, while I was on their driver’s side recording them,” Moreida said. “So they basically pushed me out into the street, and so I kept walking down the street checking them out, reading their license plate, and before I knew it, this Tahoe that had taken off down the street, I could hear it coming towards me, and it ran into me.”
Woodland police acknowledged the incident occurred between federal immigration and a pedestrian around 9:38 a.m. near Locust and Clover streets. The agency said its agents have contacted those involved and are investigating what caused the situation.
Police said Moreida suffered minor injuries.
KCRA 3 reached out to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for comment and has not yet received a response.
The Yolo County Prosecutor’s Office said it cannot comment at this time because the case is under active investigation by Woodland police.
U.S. House Representative Mike Thompson, who represents the Woodland area, released the following statement.
“ICE cannot continue to terrorize our communities. I am in communication with local law enforcement, who have informed me that ICE was driving the vehicle in question and that an investigation is underway. No one is above the law. ICE’s actions have contributed to increased distrust and fear in our communities, making transparency and accountability even more essential. Members of our community must feel safe.”
Congresswoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry said on social media: “Our community deserves answers and accountability.”
