In-N-Out Owner Reveals 4 States Considering Eastward Expansion
In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder has talked about an eastward expansion for the SoCal burger restaurant in the past, while insisting they will still have a presence in California. She has now revealed four states she is targeting.
The fast food chain’s 44-year-old president and owner – the granddaughter of founders Esther and Harry Snyder – recently spoke with actor Terry Crews to commemorate the fast food chain’s 78th anniversary, with the opening of the first restaurant in Baldwin Park, California, on October 22, 1948.
Snyder moved her family to Tennessee last year to start the chain’s eastward growth, although she plans further expansion into four states.
“If you look at the map, you have Texas. There’s Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma. Some states are possible,” Snyder said.
She added, “New Mexico has been waiting for us, and it will be soon,” referencing a November 2023 Instagram announcement that they would open a restaurant in Albuquerque by 2027.
The chain – which has remained private and family-owned since its inception, without resorting to franchising – operates 445 restaurants in 10 states, with Snyder adding that many states are asking the chain to expand there.

“While I think there are a lot of states that really want us to get there, it’s not really in the works or planned,” she said. “I feel like there’s a special piece knowing that In-N-Out isn’t everywhere.”
Yet while the chain’s expansion outside of California, the chain’s home state, is underway, she insists that expanding the business isn’t exactly her top priority, adding that she wants to “make sure everything is right” before each new restaurant opens.
“The goal is for the environment, the landscape, the weather and all those things to be different, but we hope In-N-Out stays the same,” she said.
Snyder also denied that the company is “growing like crazy,” adding, “We have a very steady growth rate, and it’s not really increasing.” In fact, sometimes we don’t reach that level. »
She insisted that leaving the state of California completely would be “the stupidest business decision ever made.”
“This is where we started, where we are and where we always will be,” Snyder said.
“We continue to expand in California and have many stores planned for future California cities.”
Earlier this year, Snyder revealed that his company would never offer mobile ordering, despite the fact that many of its competitors did.
“We’ve certainly had this in front of us, and the answer is no,” Snyder-Ellingson said during a conference at Pepperdine University in Malibu in April.
“The main reason that makes In-N-Out and the experience so special is the interaction and the customer service that we are able to offer, the smile, the welcome.”
“Just that warmth and that cultured feel. And so, mobile ordering will definitely take away some of that, and there’s also the coolness factor.”
