Increase in the number of civilians killed
Four and a half years after the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, long-range strikes are increasing on both sides of the front, targeting a growing number of civilian installations such as logistics warehouses and causing more and more casualties.
July was the deadliest month for civilians in Ukraine since May 2022, with at least 437 civilians killed, an increase of 30% compared to June and 70% compared to July 2025, according to the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU).
The Ukrainian capital in particular paid a heavy price last month, with at least 54 dead and 202 injured.
Russian forces have repeatedly launched massive bombardments of kyiv, using ballistic and cruise missiles, even though Ukraine lacks the interceptors to deal with these attacks.
