JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) The Jacksonville Jaguars’ latest home loss gave them a three-game lead in the AFC South – and put them in a position they haven’t been in since 1999.

Trevor Lawrence threw three touchdown passes, including one to recently benched wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., and the Jaguars dominated the rain-affected Indianapolis Colts 42-7 on Sunday to extend their home series winning streak to 12.

The final game ended at halftime and allowed Jacksonville (5-2) to take control of the AFC South after eight weeks.

“Good teams don’t think ahead of their division in November,” Lawrence said.

Lawrence ran a 98-yard touchdown drive on Jacksonville’s opening possession and never gave up until he watched the fourth quarter from the sideline.

“It’s embarrassing. It’s complete bullshit,” Colts running back Jonathan Taylor said. “I went over there and they kicked us in the teeth. It was old-fashioned heartthrob. That’s what’s going to show up in the movie.”

Lawrence found Thomas alone in the back of the end zone for the first score. He also connected with Bhayshul Tuten on a screen in the third quarter and with rookie Nate Boerkircher on a 31-yard field goal in a first half filled with big plays for the Jaguars.

Tuten scored on a 39-yard run in which he made three tackles, and Rayuan Lane returned an interception 92 yards for a touchdown with 10 seconds left in the second quarter to give the Jags a 28-0 lead.

Tuten finished with 104 rushing yards and 55 receiving yards, both career highs.

“We knew it was going to rain,” Tuten said. “We knew we were going to run the ball, and we just went out and imposed our will.”

Jacksonville finished with 183 rushing yards five days after the Colts (2-6) traded away two of their best players, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and longtime guard Quenton Nelson, to begin a rebuilding effort.

Indianapolis also fired general manager Chris Ballard last month and is reportedly ready to part ways with Taylor.

Taylor was stranded most of the day against Jacksonville, finishing with 23 yards on eight carries and finding himself saddled with a fumble on a sloppy trick play. He is the last player to surpass 100 rushing yards in a game against the Jaguars, accomplishing the feat in the 2024 regular season finale.

Jacksonville’s run defense could be tested in the future, however, as DaVon Hamilton, a 335-pound nose, suffered what looked like a season-ending right knee injury in the second quarter. Players rushed to his side and a team trainer called for a cart to take him to the locker room. He was sent off a few minutes later.

“Extremely, extremely difficult,” coach Liam Coen said. “There aren’t many better humans, better competitors, better team guys…I can’t say enough about him.”

Indianapolis last won at EverBank Stadium in 2014. The 12-game skid includes a trip to London in 2016. Even during some of the Jaguars’ worst years — a one-win campaign in 2020 and two three-win seasons — they managed to beat the Colts at home.

This one was never in doubt.

Coming off a bye and wearing the franchise’s new “Bold City” rivalry uniforms, Lawrence completed 10 of 14 passes for 210 yards and the Jaguars won their seventh straight regular season game at home. They have outscored their opponents 271-75 in those games.

“The guys, I think they knew there was a little blood in the water, that we wanted to be able to jump on them at home,” Coen said. “We didn’t go home much. We wanted to be able to put on a show for our local fans and give people a little excitement.”

Indianapolis has lost four in a row and 13 of 15 since last season.

Daniel Jones completed 19 of 28 passes for 144 yards, with a touchdown to Josh Downs and two interceptions. He was benched in the fourth quarter and replaced by Anthony Richardson.

The Colts played without cornerback Justin Walley.

The Jaguars had three starters besides Hamilton injured in the game: safety Eric Murray (left elbow), defensive end Travon Walker (right ribs) and right guard Ezra Cleveland (right ankle). Backup linebacker Branson Combs (left arm) also left the game on fourth down.

The Colts will host Dallas next Sunday.

The Jaguars play at Baltimore on Thursday night.
