Tennessee football listed as true freshman quarterback Fazon Brandon as questionable in Wednesday’s SEC availability report, ahead of Saturday’s game against Alabama at Neyland Stadium.

Brandon was listed as a game decision, but did not play in the 24-17 win over Arkansas on Saturday. The true freshman quarterback was limited in practice the previous two weeks after suffering a right shoulder injury in the 20-17 loss to then-No. 1 Texas on September 26.

No. 14 Tennessee (5-1, 2-1 SEC) and No. 6 Alabama (5-1, 3-1) are scheduled to tip off at 3:30 p.m. Eastern on ABC in the final edition of the rivalry on the third Saturday in October.

Alabama ruled out senior receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams while being in the center Racin Delgatty is questionable and linebacker Justin Hill is probable.

The availability report will be updated again on Thursday and Friday, then a pre-match report will be made public 90 minutes before Saturday’s match.

Tennessee SEC Availability Report: Wednesday

“We’ll find out here throughout the week.”

Josh Heupel As of Monday, there was no update on Tennessee’s quarterback plans against Alabama.

“We’ll find out here during the week,” Heupel said. “We’re going to the grass (Tuesday) and we’ll work towards Saturday.”

Second year student George MacIntyre replaced Brandon in the first half of the win over Auburn at Neyland Stadium on Oct. 3 and made his first career start at Arkansas on Saturday. He completed 8 of 10 passes for 86 yards against Auburn and was 18 of 29 for 247 yards with a touchdown, two interceptions and a lost fumble against the Razorbacks.

Brent Hubbs reported Tuesday that Brandon has been doing more in practice with the Vols, starting practice Tuesday for the first time since he was injured against Texas.

Heupel said after the win over Arkansas that MacIntyre knew he would start the game last Monday.

“Faizon is suffering from an injury,” Heupel said. “George handled the situation well when Faizon was named starter. Faizon handled the situation well with his shoulder, continuing to stay engaged in practice in the meeting room, helping that room. He was here for emergency use only this week.”

Seven Tennessee players out for the season

Offensive lineman Wendell Moe Jr. became the latest Tennessee player to lose to a season-ending injury after suffering a lower-body injury against Texas. Seven Vols out for the season due to injuries.

Second-year wide receiver Joakim Dodson (knee) was injured in the second half of the 56-9 season-opening win over senior tight end Furman Ethan Davis (ACL) suffered a season-ending knee injury at Georgia Tech on September 12 and second-year defensive back Dylan Lewis was injured in the 42-9 victory over Kennesaw State on September 19.

Security Edrees Farooq (knee), linebacker Jaedon Harmon (ACL) and corner Jadaïs Richard (upper body) were out before the start of the season. Farooq was injured during the preparatory camp. Harmon tore his ACL during the first week of the preseason and Richard was injured while training alone in July.
