Complaints surrounding Insomniac Wolverine were persistent and noisy even before its September 15 launch. However, the developer is doing its best to appease players’ berserker rage by fixing fixable aspects of the game that players don’t like. By IGNlatest update for Wolverine features three new opt-out settings for fans who aggressively dislike the game’s “hand-held” tracking mechanics, as if Logan’s fuzzy mitts gripping ours as we ferociously stab wave after wave of robots, soldiers, and robot soldiers were some kind of bad thing. Now, players can turn off the Whiskey Bottle Scent Trails, Hardware Crate Audio Clues, and Nightmare Gate Roots, which were previously elements that directed you to the next interactive element by way of a visual representation of the mutant’s enhanced senses.
In the patch notes is another fix involving the game’s bizarre (“weird”?) bathroom signs, which some players claimed were proof that Insomniac used generative AI during the game’s development. (Insomniac says, “No way, buddy.”) With this latest update, players can now enjoy Wolverine without having to look at the game’s confusing toilet signs and pampering follow-up lines (famously nicknamed “fart gas” by Washington Post reporter Gene Park), which will surely temper players’ feelings regarding the game’s other perceived flaws. Oops, we spoke too soon: some of the game’s “scent trails” remain despite the switch, such as in story missions such as “The One That Got Away” which requires Wolverine to track down telepathic/mutant lover Jean Grey, however. IGN reports that Insomniac’s previous update “reduced the opacity of the trail” so as not to further provoke its fierce player base.
