iOS 27.2: Three new features soon available on your iPhone

iOS 27.0.1 just launched yesterday, but Apple is already well on its way to preparing iOS 27.2 as the next update for iPhone (with 27.1 likely only for iPhone Duo). Here are three new features coming with iOS 27.2.

#1: Double capture for Group FaceTime

FaceTime got one of its biggest upgrades in years with iOS 27.

On compatible iPhone models, Dual Capture lets you view your front and rear camera views simultaneously. Just press the “Flip” button and the rear camera will go live while the front camera remains active.

And in iOS 27.2, the feature is further improved by adding support for group FaceTime calls.

iOS 27 currently only lets you use Dual Capture during one-on-one calls, but with iOS 27.2 it will also be available for Group FaceTime.

#2: Apple Podcasts overhauls the “Up Next” queue

Apple Podcasts is getting a key change in iOS 27.2 that I’m already a big fan of in beta.

The old “Up Next” queue at the top of the app’s Home tab is split into two new sections:

New episodes replaces Up Next and contains the latest versions of the shows you follow
Continue playing is brand new, located directly under New Episodes as a hub for all current shows

I’ve previously criticized the Up Next feature for being cluttered and confusing, so I’m very excited to see this change. In my initial testing, I think this is a huge improvement that helps users better track everything they’re listening to.

#3: Apple TV app supports user profiles

Apple’s TV app is set to support user profiles on iPhone, bringing functionality from tvOS to iOS for the first time.

When you launch the TV app for the first time in iOS 27.2, you will see a new profile selection screen. You can easily prevent it from reappearing. But if your child watches videos on your iPhone, you may be very happy with this new feature.

With Profiles, the Apple TV app can change the content it displays and recommends based on the selected viewer. And above all, when a child’s profile is active, they will only see Apple series and films appropriate for their age. So not only does your own personal viewing queue stay uncluttered, but you also ensure that your child doesn’t see something they shouldn’t see.
