Trump-era gas prices exceed Biden average as Iran war cuts fuel supplies
President Donald Trump faces midterm headwinds, but he remains undaunted about oil prices following his maximum pressure campaign on Iran, vowing to remain resolute in the face of Iranian terrorism in the Strait of Hormuz and its nuclear ambitions.
According to AAA data, average pump prices during Trump’s second term have eclipsed those recorded under former President Joe Biden, presenting a strong economic vulnerability for Republicans seeking to maintain a narrow majority in Congress ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
The price of regular gasoline averaged $3.472 per gallon under Trump, surpassing the $3.471 average under Biden.
“Once this conflict ends, gas prices will fall drastically,” White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said in a statement. “Thanks to the exceptional work of the US military, more oil is now flowing from the Persian Gulf than before the start of the Iranian conflict.”
The sustained cost pressures follow widespread disruptions in international energy markets caused by the protracted war in Ukraine and the nine-month-old joint U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran.
Hostilities centered on the Strait of Hormuz – the vital corridor that has historically passed around 20 percent of the world’s oil trade – have tightened global crude flows and triggered emergency draws on oil reserves in the United States and Europe.
