The new movie Heart of the Beast is now in theaters and the moving story will touch the hearts of movie lovers around the world.
Brad Pitt stars in the film, about a special forces veteran and his fighting dog, stranded in the Alaskan wilderness after a horrific plane crash.
A real German Shepherd named Uber takes the role of Odin instead of letting CGI play the role of the dog. And he really gives an incredible performance!

Uberthe head coach Andrew Simpson revealed to RNZ that the role was shared by the dog with three of his descendants.
“Just look at him on screen and everyone agrees he’s a potential movie star,” Simpson said. “He had this face that captivated the audience, so a lot of emotion-emitting things from the dog, the twisting of the head, the licking of the lips, all those close-ups, that’s it.” Uber.”
“(He’s) a very special dog, I knew that as soon as I saw him. He was mature… he was six years old, he had an old soul in him, it looked like he had lived a few past lives. He was very gentle, very calm, very grounded and he just had Odin written all over him,” Simpson added.
Uber was the father of 10 litters and they chose three of his offspring to share the role because they all look similar.
Uber was a police dog before starring in the film
Uber went to the police academy for two years, but failed.
“I think he was too nice a dog to be a police dog,” Simpson told RNZ. “He also spent time in Queenstown. He was the companion of a paramedic who worked in the rescue helicopters.”
A team of 12 people took care of the dogs on set
“There was myself, four coaches, we had makeup artists, we had a prosthetics department, we had a costume department… you name it, we had it… they even had their own trailers on set,” Simpson told RNZ.
The team had to ensure continuity whenever the dogs were replaced for scenes.
“Throughout the whole movie, the dog wears a military vest that breaks down over the course of the movie. He has a bandana, he has a collar, he has a prosthetic on his front leg. So all of these things need to be maintained, need to be taken apart, need to be colored, need to be repaired.” Simpson added.
