Ismael Bonfim removed from UFC roster after third weight loss and knockout loss to Francisco Prado
Ismael Bonfim is no longer in the UFC after a disastrous weekend in Las Vegas.
The 30-year-old Brazilian was removed from the promotion’s roster following a first-round knockout loss to Francisco Prado in the preliminary round of UFC Vegas 122 at Meta APEX, a match for which he weighed 7.5 pounds.
This was Bonfim’s fourth straight loss in the UFC, in addition to officially missing weight twice and having a fight canceled due to weight-cutting issues. “Marreta” Bonfim leaves with a 2-5 promotional record, a stark contrast to his 18-3 record in his debut after striking a deal. Dana White’s Contender Series.
Bonfim released a statement on social media on Sunday, ahead of his departure from the UFC, in which he vowed that “my story does not end here.”
“There is no excuse, no shame and certainly no reason to give up,” Bonfim wrote in Portuguese. “We have come this far by taking the hardest path, facing battles few know, overcoming fears, breaking barriers, and fighting battles that go far beyond what happens inside the octagon. The outcome of a battle does not define the worth of a warrior, and one loss will never be enough to erase all the history we have built.”
“I keep my head high, my heart at peace and my faith stronger than ever,” he continued. “Because those who know where they come from, everything they’ve been through and how much they had to fight to get here don’t give up because of one outcome. My story doesn’t end there. God is always writing the next chapters and I trust Him completely. All honor and glory be to God! “
