OKC Thunder star Jalen Williams was carted off the court late in the fourth quarter of a home game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.
Williams made a dunk at 1:15 and was fouled by Kris Dunn, who was assessed a flagrant foul of 1. He then fell awkwardly on his left leg and immediately needed help from medical staff.
Williams gave two thumbs up as he was carted off the field. He also received chants of “J Dub” from people inside the Paycom Center, all of whom wish the best for the 25-year-old forward.
“I just feel bad for him,” Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said while fighting back tears during his postgame interview. “…We just have to hold down the fort until he returns.”
Williams played in just 33 games last season due to a nagging right wrist injury and strained both hamstrings. He then returned to full health this summer and showed flashes of his All-NBA skills to start this season, from shot creation to playmaking to defense.
OKC ultimately earned a 108-101 victory over Los Angeles to move to 3-0 on the season.
The Thunder lost starting guard Cason Wallace to an injury earlier in Sunday’s game. He was ruled out at half-time due to left shoulder soreness.
OKC will host the Phoenix Suns at 7 p.m. Monday.
