Jason Sudeikis wants to continue ‘Ted Lasso’ and talks about Olivia Wilde
Jason Sudeikis opened up on a recent episode of “Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso,” discussing his hopes for Season 5 of “Ted Lasso,” how the show “saved” him from “self-harm” and what the public got wrong about his closely watched 2020 split from ex Olivia Wilde.
Sudeikis and Fragoso talked about “Ted Lasso” up top, as the host asked if the actor wanted to continue the series for seasons 5 and 6. (The season 4 finale aired earlier this month.) Sudeikis said he “would love to,” but the status of future seasons remains unknown: “Yeah, I just don’t know,” he said, assuring Fragoso that he wasn’t being coy “on purpose.” “. “We didn’t create a writers’ room or anything like that,” he noted. He added that he would “assume” Apple would continue the series if the main cast wanted to return.
The former “Saturday Night Live” star has also been candid about what “Ted Lasso” saved him from, as he has mentioned several times. “Some form of self-harm. Full-on,” Sudeikis responded, describing a feeling he hadn’t felt since “confusing adolescence.” “It’s probably the most crude, the most embarrassing, maybe, but I don’t think it’s embarrassing… It brings shame up inside me to think, ‘How dare you? How dare you have those kinds of thoughts, you know?'” The actor went on to describe wanting to become a drummer or a dancer when he was a teenager to express his emotions. “So how did (‘Ted Lasso’) save me? To some extent it helped me (and) carried me as sometimes work has done in the past.”
Sudeikis’ ex-fiancée, Olivia Wilde, also appeared, as the host asked her what the “Ted Lasso” star thought she missed from the public coverage of their split. (Sudeikis specifically made headlines in 2022 when Wilde was served with child custody papers during his appearance at CinemaCon.)
“Oh my God. I mean, a million little things,” he replied. “But what’s interesting is that it allows you to empathize when other people are going through this. And you don’t have to be as lucky as us to be able to do something that we love.”
He continued, “I don’t wish it on anyone because I don’t think it really shakes things up. And to be clear, it’s not like all evil is just misunderstood or anything like that. I just mean these interpersonal situations that are then described as being these binary situations of good and evil… It’s always more complicated, more human than that.”
Sudeikis praised Wilde’s work: “Olivia loves what she does and is very, very talented and always has been. I’m delighted for her.” (The actress and director is in the middle of the Oscar conversation for her work on “The Invite.”)
