Jed York suspended six games and fined $500,000
The NFL announced its disciplinary action against 49ers owner Jed York after he pleaded no contest to charges of disorderly conduct and possession of criminal tools over the summer.
York was suspended for six games and fined $500,000 for violating the personal conduct policy.
“San Francisco 49ers principal owner Jed York has been suspended for six regular season games and fined $500,000 for violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy, the NFL announced today,” the league’s statement said. “While the league’s investigation was ongoing, York remained out of the 49ers’ first three regular season games, as well as NFL league meetings. Those three missed games count toward his suspension, and he could return on Tuesday, Oct. 20.”
York’s initial arrest was prompted by suspicion of prostitution.
York released a statement saying he would accept “the NFL’s decision in its entirety.”
“To my family, the players, coaches and employees of the San Francisco 49ers, our fans and partners, I am deeply sorry,” York said in his statement. “It was an inexcusable mistake and I take full responsibility for it. What I did does not reflect my values or the man I strive to be for my family.
“Even though I haven’t achieved the role model I want to set for my sons, I now hope to show them the importance of recognizing failures and that even our worst moments teach us to be better.
“Leading the 49ers is a privilege that I do not take lightly. Your trust will need to be regained over time, and I look forward to this work ahead.”
The 49ers started the season 3-0 in York’s absence. He will be able to resume his participation in the games in Week 7, when San Francisco is on the road to face Atlanta.
