Jennifer Lawrence has joined Zach Cregger’s mysterious sci-fi film
resident Evil is a smash hit, and Zach Cregger, who also directed Barbarous And Weaponslooks to continue its streak – this time with an original film meant to skew more sci-fi than its usual horror fare. It’s called The floodand a big piece of the puzzle has just fallen into place: Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence will star.
Deadline reports that Lawrence has boarded the film, which has a release date of August 11, 2028. Cregger will write and direct his own story. We don’t have an official plot description yet, but Cregger has given some hints; earlier in September, he told Deadline that the idea of The flood came to him precipitously amid his eagerness to work with Steven Spielberg, whose producers Amblin Entertainment is among his producers.
“I was watching this movie and someone in the movie was entering an abandoned spaceship,” Cregger explained. “And my wife said to me, ‘There’s nothing scarier than being trapped in space.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, that’s interesting.’ Maybe there’s something here. And then this character enters the ship, and they find something that was quite weird and scared them.
“And I thought, ‘What would be weirder and scarier than that? What could happen in this scenario that would freak me out more than that?’ And this has never happened to me before, but in a flash, I had the whole movie explode in front of my eyes. I just knew what it could be; I think I probably stood up and said to myself, “I’ve got it!” » It was a totally ridiculous moment, but I love it.
We’re excited to see Lawrence lead The floodwhich looks like a much better sci-fi showcase for his talents than the problematic Passengers.
