Jeremiah Smith Makes History With Rare Stats, Watch Ohio State WR’s Best Highlights vs. Illinois

A week after becoming Ohio State’s all-time leading receiver, Jeremiah Smith reached the 3,000 career passing yard mark on Saturday.

Smith became the first player in OSU history with at least 3,000 career receiving yards thanks to a few big plays in the Buckeyes’ 42-19 win over Illinois:

The 20-year-old phenom racked up 12 receptions for 217 yards and scored four receiving touchdowns of seven, 72, nine and 26 yards:

Smith entered Saturday’s contest with 2,958 career receiving yards, which places him above Emeka Egbuka, Michael Jenkins, Chris Olave, David Boston and Marvin Harrison Jr. on Ohio State’s all-time list.

At the end of the season, Smith sits atop the Buckeyes’ all-time receiving leaderboard in every major statistical category.

He entered Saturday’s game against Illinois ranked third in career receptions for Ohio State with 184, just 21 behind Egbuka’s career leader.

Smith was also tied for fourth in career touchdowns with 30, but after passing four against the Fighting Illini, he moved into second place, just one behind Olave, who is OSU’s career leader with 35.

Considered by many to be the best player in college football regardless of position, Smith is firmly in the conversation to become the No. 1 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Of course, a team in need of a quarterback picking first overall could opt to take on that position instead, but it seems likely that Smith will be the first non-QB off the board next April.
