Jerry Jones ‘extraordinarily disappointed’ after Cowboys loss to Buccaneers | Latest NFL News, Analysis and Updates
Throughout the game, Todd Bowles’ defense placed Prescott in the rotation cycle. The QB rarely looked comfortable, was uncharacteristically off-kilter on many passes and couldn’t get things going until late, when Dallas was already down by two scores. The final interception went into the hands of Jake Ferguson.
It was a huge disappointment for Dallas. Defense remains a sensitive point. DaRon Bland has been poor to start the season, allowing 91 yards on three catches Thursday. The Cowboys defense couldn’t slow down Tampa’s offense in the second half or stop Irving. Even with a shot to get the ball back late after the INT, the Cowboys let Irving run 22 yards to seal the loss.
The defense was once again bad. This time the offense couldn’t overcome him and the special teams chipped in with a turnover.
After the game, fan frustration erupted when a driver from a contracted car service yelled “embarrassing” as Prescott drove by, leading to an exchange between the two that Prescott objected to, according to the team’s official website. The QB was more angry at the person than the opinion.
“I know when he said it, I just looked at him, and at that point, you know, he looked away, and then when I turned my head back, he said something else,” Prescott explained. “And so this is the time where, as a man, you feel free to say what you think, but say it and don’t be afraid of the reaction you’re going to get.
“So if you say it’s embarrassing, say it’s embarrassing. If you tell me, then tell me, you know what I mean? Don’t bring it up. So that’s all that happened, and I hate even talking about it, to be honest with you.”
Prescott acknowledged the Cowboys didn’t play well, but he said calling it embarrassing would demean Bowles and the Bucs.
“To use the word embarrassing, it’s difficult,” Prescott said. “I feel like I’m discrediting the NFL if I use that, and especially the Tampa Bay Bucs, the great Todd Bowles, a coach and a defensive team. This guy has been a winning coach for a long time, whether he’s been a head coach or a defensive coordinator. That’s the plan and what they did tonight is why. Embarrassing to say, I think I would discredit them.
“But we were definitely supposed to win this game, which we’re supposed to have on paper or however you want to look at it. I think Schotty said it best in the locker room, in this league you have to win the games you’re supposed to win. When a winless team walks into your stadium in a prime-time game on Thursday night, yeah, we’re supposed to win that. It sucks and almost embarrassing, but I don’t know if I’d say that.”
Whatever word you want to use for the Cowboys’ night, everyone can agree that it was an ugly mess, and perhaps the worst loss of Brian Schottenheimer’s tenure.
