Jessica Lange, 77, teases her acting retirement
Jessica Lange could say goodbye to acting forever – and she blamed the lack of decent roles on offer.
“I actually feel like I’m coming to the end,” the 77-year-old actress told Rolling Stone in a recent interview.
The Oscar winner mused that “maybe that’s not a bad way to end,” noting that her last film role was as Mary Tyrone in “Long Day’s Journey Into Night,” a film adaptation of the Eugene O’Neill play that was filmed in 2022 and released in a limited capacity in the United States last month.
“There are a few projects that have been in the works forever that may or may not come to fruition,” she explained.
“I don’t know. It doesn’t seem easy to get things done anymore. At least not the kind of films I’m interested in.”
When asked how she wanted to be remembered, the “Cape Fear” star was modest.
“For good roles. For good films. For being an honest actor,” she shared.
“I’ve been incredibly lucky. I love acting and have been able to do it for decades, which has been a joy for me,” Lange added.
“It’s hard sometimes to balance family, career and places and dragging my kids here and there. But it’s all been a great adventure. I’m so grateful that this happened to me.”
Most recently, Lange appeared on the small screen in season 13 of “American Horror Story.”
The “Frances” star recently called FX “fucking cheap” for not providing car service to the cast of “American Horror Story” Season 3.
“We had to drive ourselves,” the actress said while reflecting on her experience with co-stars Sarah Paulson, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe and more at PaleyFest earlier this month.
“Thank you FX,” she joked in a now-viral video captured by a fan.
Lange made her film debut in the 1976 monster movie “King Kong” and was subsequently nominated for six Academy Awards – winning twice for “Tootsie” (best supporting actress) and “Blue Sky” (best actress).
She has also garnered nine Emmy nominations, winning three times for “Grey Gardens” (lead actress in a miniseries or movie), “American Horror Story: Murder House” (lead actress in a miniseries or movie) and “American Horror Story: Coven” (lead actress in a miniseries or movie).
