Jim Harbaugh: “We are aware of the problems and we are the only ones who can solve them”
It got ugly for the Chargers, who fell to 0-7 with Sunday’s loss to the Rams across town.
Despite their bye, the Chargers weren’t able to do much offensively under beleaguered coordinator Mike McDaniel. Justin Herbert threw two more interceptions, giving him a season-high 10 in seven games. He was also sacked, which was almost recovered for a scoop-and-score.
After scoring three field goals on Sunday, the Chargers haven’t scored a touchdown since late in the third quarter of their Week 5 loss to the Broncos.
“Yeah, be aware of that and keep working, keep studying,” head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters in his postgame press conference. “It’s not a familiar position for any of the guys in our locker room, so we’re the only ones who can change it. We’re very motivated and determined to do it.”
Asked if he was concerned about Herbert’s reversals, Harbaugh said, “Yes, we are aware of the problems and we are the only ones who can fix them.” »
McDaniel will continue to call plays, Harbaugh said. Although asked why he is confident this group can turn things around, Harbaugh didn’t provide a very concrete answer.
“First of all, it’s a team effort and we’re going to watch the film,” Harbaugh said. “We’re going to work through our issues, where we can improve, and just keep working. It’s very driven and determined to do things right.
“We’re the only ones who have the opportunity to change things, to fix them. And that’s what we’re going to do, get back to work. I haven’t been in this position very often either, here as a coach. But I know we have to dedicate ourselves to make it change. That’s where we are.”
The Chargers will be at home to face the Texans in Week 9.
