Joe Manganiello shares rare insight into mysterious battle with illness with heartbreaking hospital photos
Joe Manganiello has shared insight into his battle with a mystery illness by sharing heartbreaking photos of himself in hospital.
“TRIGGER WARNING. In the days after my large intestine was amputated, my weight started to drop,” he captioned the carousel of images on Instagram on Thursday.
“I would ultimately lose a total of 60 pounds in the two weeks following surgery,” the “Magic Mike” star added.
“If you zoom in, you can see the top of my first ostomy bag crawling across the sheets,” he claimed, referring to the photo of him sitting shirtless in a hospital chair.
Manganiello, 49, then described the second photo, which shows a close-up of her “abdomen after the reconnection/disassembly operation or anastomosis, in which my ostomy bag was removed and what was left of my digestive tract was reconnected.”
The “Spider-Man” actor said the third photo showed “the multitude of skin conditions I suffered from during the seven years I was sick.”
“My skin, an immune organ, was being struck by just about every ailment known to man, usually in combination,” he wrote of the images, which showed red rashes all over his face.
Manganiello first revealed that he had been battling a seven-year illness in the synopsis of his new memoir, “Bloodlines,” this summer.
The “True Blood” alum said doctors couldn’t explain the illness that attacked his thyroid, digestive system, skin, lungs and eyes.
Instead, Manganiello said he used shamans, pagan rituals, ancient myths, long-lost family records and the rebirth of his own spirituality to try to alleviate his illness.
In his book, the actor revealed that a shaman suggested that one of his then-wife Sofia Vergara’s exes had placed a “voodoo curse” on him that caused the illness.
“‘Someone from your past is still in love with you. They put a voodoo spell on your husband. They did it in New Orleans,'” he recalls the shaman telling him and the “Griselda” actress.
Manganiello said he believed the person of interest was Vergara’s ex Nick Loeb, who previously lived in New Orleans.
In an exclusive statement to Page Six, Loeb, 51, said, “I pray they find Jesus — not another shaman.” »
Manganiello also claimed that Vergara, 54, ridiculed him while he was dealing with his illness. He also claimed that she refused to hug him when he was seriously ill.
The “America’s Got Talent” author and judge were married for seven years before splitting in 2023.
