Joe Mixon, Seahawks agree to contract amid injuries to Jadarian Price and Zach Charbonnet
The defending Super Bowl champions add veteran help to their reserve with rookie Jadarian Price on injured reserve and Zach Charbonnet also sidelined.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Monday that the Seattle Seahawks are signing former Cincinnati Bengals and Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon, who will wear number 25 with the team. Mixon appeared to confirm the news:
Mixon will join the practice squad, according to head coach Mike Macdonald.
Running back depth became an area of concern for the Seahawks early in the season. Most notably, Price will miss at least four games on IR with a chest injury.
“That’s exactly what happens in football. Unfortunately, injuries happen,” Macdonald told reporters. “He can’t control these things. He’s done everything we’ve asked of him since he got here. He’s had a great attitude. He’s been a great teammate. He’s got a great future. He’ll play great football for us when he comes back, whenever that is… It’s just unfortunate.”
As for Charbonnet, he has yet to play this season as he recovers from a torn ACL. However, Seattle opened its 21-day practice window on Thursday, suggesting he could be close to his return.
While both were out for Sunday’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers, Emanuel Wilson thrived in the primary running back role. He finished with 21 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown with three catches for 39 yards and another score.
Backup George Holani had seven carries for 18 yards.
Given Wilson’s success, Mixon surely won’t come to Seattle and dominate opportunities in the running game if he sees action in the next few games. However, he provides a veteran presence on the depth chart and someone who can help the position tread water until Price and Charbonnet are ready to return.
Mixon played seven seasons for Cincinnati and surpassed the 1,000 rushing yard mark four times, including when he was a Pro Bowler in 2021. He was also a Pro Bowler in 2024 with the Texans when he rushed for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns.
However, the 30-year-old missed the 2025 campaign due to a foot injury. Houston released him in March, which is why he was available to the Seahawks.
