Jon Stewart to remain ‘Daily Show’ host until 2028
Jon Stewart will continue to lead “The Daily Show” until 2028.
The host has extended his contract with the Comedy Central series for two years and will continue to serve as secretary until the next presidential election. Stewart’s contract was due to end at the end of 2026 after signing a one-year renewal in November 2025.
Stewart will still be part of the rotating roster of hosts that includes Ronny Chieng, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta and Desi Lydic, with Troy Iwata and Grace Kuhlenschmidt as non-host correspondents. He also remains an executive producer along with showrunner and executive producer Jen Flanz and Stewart’s longtime manager James “Baby Doll” Dixon.
Stewart last renewed his contract just months after Comedy Central’s parent company, Paramount, was acquired by Skydance Media. His new extension comes weeks after the David Ellison-led conglomerate completed a merger between Paramount and Warner Bros.
Stewart debuted as a host on “The Daily Show” in 1999 and left in 2015. Trevor Noah took his place as anchor of the satirical news program before stepping down in 2022. After Stewart returned to “The Daily Show” in February 2024, ratings increased. According to metrics provided by Paramount, the show is the most-watched cable show on social media in 2026.
“Jon Stewart is a generational talent and ‘The Daily Show’ continues to be one of television’s most influential franchises and a cornerstone of Comedy Central. We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Jon and his award-winning news team,” said George Cheeks, co-president and chief content officer of Skydance TV.
