Jorge Posada reveals he doesn’t feel ‘welcome’ with Yankees after legendary MLB career
Former New York Yankees star catcher Jorge Posada revealed that he no longer feels like the organization wants more from him.
“I don’t feel welcome when I go there, you know? Even in spring training, I don’t feel like…I just feel like, I don’t know, I don’t feel welcome,” Posada said during a Tuesday appearance on The show podcast (h/t Matt Ehalt from New York Post). “I don’t feel like they want me there, so I’m not going.”
“I don’t know what happened. I just prefer to move on,” he added. “My last season of my career was very difficult when it came to dealing with everything on my side and also from the Yankees towards Jorge Posada. So, it’s hard to go back and feel that way again.”
Posada spent his entire playing career with the Yankees from 1995 to 2011, helping them to four World Series titles.
He earned five All-Star nominations and six Silver Slugger Awards throughout his career in New York.
Posada sits 9th on the Yankees’ all-time hitting list while also sitting 14th on their all-time hits list.
It should be noted that his final season in New York did not go smoothly, as he operated primarily as a designated hitter rather than a catcher for the first time in his career.
Yet the Yankees retired Posada’s number 20 in a ceremony in August 2015.
He was also in attendance at New York’s spring training ahead of the 2025 season before showing up at the club’s Old Timers’ Day this year.
It’s unclear what caused Posada to feel unwelcome at the Yankees, although he previously explained that the team’s mentality needed to change in August 2025.
“It’s just more of an attitude than anything,” Posada told SNY’s Chelsea Sherrod at the time. “They just need to get a little angry, hopefully a fight or something that happens, not a fight but something that happens to get them going again.”
“They have to have that chip on their shoulder,” he added. “You have to play like that. You can’t be friends with everyone.”
The Yankees are coming off a 2026 campaign in which they finished with a 93-68 record, but were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS.
