Josh Hartnett talks working with the intimacy coordinator on the set of ‘Verity’ with Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson
Josh Hartnett shares steamy scenes with Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway on the set of Truthand to achieve this, they called on an intimacy coordinator.
In a new interview, Hartnett opened up about how an intimacy coordinator “played a big role” in filming the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel.
“So coordinating intimacy played a big role, but when you work with incredible actors and professionals who understand writing and scripting and a director like Michael Showalter who likes to keep things lively and fun on set, we quickly became friends, and so it all seemed a little goofy,” Hartnett said on ABC News Live Prime.
He continued: “We laughed a lot on that set and if we were ever to do another movie together it would have to be a comedy, but obviously this one isn’t, so we had to keep a straight face from time to time.”
Truth follows renowned author Verity Crawford (Hathaway) and Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson), a struggling writer who moves to the secluded Crawford estate to ghostwrite for Verity. After Lowen discovers what appears to be Verity’s chilling autobiographical notes, she struggles with the disturbing and twisted confessions about Verity’s husband, Jeremy (Hartnett), and struggles to separate fiction from reality, manipulation from attraction, and opportunity from obsession.
Of working with Hathaway and Johnson, Hartnett said, “Like I said, we get along really well, and when you get along with people and you have a director who understands what’s expected of you, you can create that chemistry like a puzzle. There are certain things that lead to other things in the story that I think build on that chemistry, and we get along really well, so we were able to play with that dynamic.”
Hartnett noted that Hathaway and Johnson “are both very professional and intentional actors and really, really talented,” adding, “I felt like I was in the best possible position to be able to do this with them.”
