Judge appears ready to strengthen blockade of Trump’s White House media ban
A federal judge seems inclined to extend his block against the president that of Donald Trump banning of three White House media outlets.
The administration’s argument that the ban was based on national security concerns is contradicted by the president’s own comments, a U.S. district judge. Timothy Kelly said during a hearing Thursday.
βItβs a tough climb,β Kelly spoke about the Justice Department’s efforts to defend the ban on national security grounds, noting Trump’s claims his ban was based on his disapproval of media coverage.
Kelly wonders whether it is appropriate to grant a block of Trump’s decide to ban POLITICO, CNN and MS NOW from the White House. The judge appointed by Trump already lifted the ban last month, issuing a two-week restraining orderwhich he extended until Tuesday, which allowed the three organizations to regain access to the West Wing. But he now appears to be leaning toward a more lasting injunction that would maintain media access during what could be months of litigation.
