The Justice Department is asking a federal judge to withdraw from a lawsuit over President Donald Trump’s plans to overhaul the East Potomac Golf Links.
The request follows a heated hearing this week, after Judge Ana Reyes learned that the administration had begun cutting down hundreds of trees on the course, despite her order prohibiting surprise work.
Reyes demanded answers from Interior Department officials and ordered two senior officials to testify about who authorized the felling of the tree.
But in a new court filing, the Justice Department accuses Reyes of showing hostility toward the Trump administration, alleging she belittled and yelled at a government lawyer.
The judge ordered the plaintiffs to respond by Sunday. She did not say whether she would recuse herself from the case.
