Katie Bailey Named New Director of White House Office of Legislative Affairs
The White House has a new congressional liaison chief as the midterms approach and control of legislative power is in the balance.
President Trump offered Katie Bailey the job of director of the Office of Legislative Affairs on Friday, and she accepted, according to multiple sources.
Bailey will replace James Braid, who resigned last month, as announced by Vice President JD Vance.
In a message published Saturday evening in Truth Social, Mr. Trump confirmed the decision, writing that Bailey “will be fantastic and work tirelessly with Congress to pass bills that will help MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”
He also praised Braid, saying he “has done a fabulous job and is now moving into the private sector, where he will be very successful.”
Braid had “one of the toughest jobs in the entire administration as legislative director in the White House,” Vance said previously. The last day of Braid will be Tuesday.
“He played a critical role in all of the administration’s accomplishments in Congress: the largest tax cut ever, the resources to implement President Trump’s historic immigration agenda and complete the border wall, defeating two Democratic shutdowns, a historic first crypto bill, the fastest Cabinet confirmation in decades and much more,” Vance added.
Bailey’s job could be even more difficult.
She accepted the role less than a month before midterm elections. The House and Senate, currently controlled by a slim majority by Republicans, could fall into Democratic hands.
Bailey does, however, have experience in the current White House. She currently serves as both Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director for Legislative Affairs.
She previously served as legislative director for Indiana Republican Sen. Mike Braun during his six-year term, which ended in January 2025 when he won the state’s gubernatorial election.
