
Katie Zacharia named next White House press secretary
What they say: “It is my great honor to nominate Katie Zacharia as Press Secretary,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

- “I am confident that Katie will deliver strong results for our country as the next White House press secretary because she has the respect and will work fantastically with the media, the American people and my administration.”
Zoom: Zacharia thanked Trump for the nomination in an article published Friday on X.
- “Serving President Trump and the American people on this critical 250th anniversary is the honor of a lifetime. President Trump has shown America that we can be great again, and he strives to make that greatness a reality every day,” she wrote.
- “I look forward to working with the White House press corps and journalists across the country to release this record. Following the fabulous Karoline Leavitt is a high standard, one that deserves to be respected.”
Catch up quickly: Zacharia is a lawyer and conservative commentator who works as a senior communications advisor at Trump Media & Technology Group, which runs Truth Social.
- She also served for about six weeks as deputy assistant secretary for public affairs and spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security. Zacharia announced her departure from DHS on March 31 in an article on X, saying she hoped to continue supporting the president’s agenda “in other capacities.”
- Zacharia has worked as a commentator on Fox News, CNN, Newsmax, One America News and other media outlets.
- She holds a law degree and bachelor’s degree from Pepperdine University, where she currently serves on the school’s Dean’s Council.
The plot: Zacharia is less well-known than some of her predecessors, but she is a staunch advocate for the administration on television and online.
- Trump also noted Friday that Zacharia had been involved in his 2024 presidential campaign, “helping key swing states.”
- She also previously worked for Trump ally Richard Grenell at Fix California, an advocacy group that works to advance conservative values in the state. Zacharia has previously described herself as a “native Californian and lifelong conservative.”
- She told CNN in April that she was “a big fan of ICE and a big fan of the Border Patrol” and praised border czar Tom Homan’s work on immigration.
