Keanu Reeves to voice John Wick in animated film prequel
Break out the nunchucks because Keanu Reeves has officially closed a deal to return as John Wick in Lionsgate’s animated prequel film about the legendary hitman.
As previously announced, the story chronicles Wick’s origins as he completes the impossible task – killing all of his rivals in one night – to free himself from his obligation to the High Table and earn the right to be with the love of his life, Helen.
Shannon Tindle, an animation veteran who is best known for Netflix’s “Ultraman: Rising” and “Kubo and the Two Strings,” will direct from a script by Ryan and Kaz Firpo. The “John Wick” production team of Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, 87Eleven Entertainment’s Chad Stahelski will produce alongside Reeves, and they will be joined in the new feature by Point Grey.
“In animation and in the world of ‘John Wick,’ the possibilities are endless. And there’s no ‘John Wick’ story that fans have been clamoring for more than ‘Impossible Task,'” Adam Fogelson, Lionsgate’s president of motion picture, said in 2025 when the animated project was announced. “Shannon’s vision for this story is incredible, and we are beyond excited to see what John Wick can do in animation.”
“John Wick” has grossed more than $1 billion at the global box office across five films, including the Ana de Armas-led spinoff “Ballerina.” Lionsgate continues to expand the series, which revolves around the titular hitman as he continues his fight against the powerful organization known as the High Table. There’s a fifth live-action “John Wick” in development, as well as a standalone adventure based on Donnie Yen’s blind assassin, Caine.
