Kelly Clarkson is taking her Brooklyn shopping controversy all the way to the bank.
The singer got into a spat over the weekend with Brooklyn Heights design boutique Art of Play after accusing them of refusing to sell her a musical bird named Molly. Clarkson compared her experience to that of a Julia Roberts sex worker character in Pretty womanclaiming staff were dismissive when she wanted to make a big purchase.
Art of Play claimed that Clarkson had wanted to buy a piece that was not for sale. Online photos, however, later confirmed that the sculpture cost $15,000. “You’re not only rude, you’re also a liar,” Clarkson responded.
What started as a “he said, she said” has now become a “he said, she said, he said,” with Art of Play co-owner Adam Rubin continuing to denounce Clarkson online. In an interview with rolling stone On Wednesday, Rubin said Clarkson’s online posts had sparked a wave of negative attention on her small business. “Kelly Clarkson knew she was lighting this fuse when she decided to use her fame and wealth on a public platform to try to destroy our company,” he told us. “She still chose to do it.”
Clarkson hasn’t responded to Rubin’s latest interviews, and she might not need to. After all, the “I Don’t Think About You” singer has her own home decor line she can shop from, with some bird-themed pieces at a much more affordable price.
