Kendrick Lamar Scores Another No. 1 Hit, Reaches Career Milestone

Kendrick Lamar and Jhené Aiko debut at No. 1

“So Good” will be launched on the 9th Billboard charts this week, but it only leads one: the R&B streaming songs chart. The chart tracks the most streamed R&B tracks in the United States, and Aiko and Lamar immediately begin their lives together at the top spot.

Lamar scores his fourth No. 1 on the R&B streaming song count alongside Aiko. He’s already helmed “Die Hard” with Blxst and Amanda Reifer, as well as two collaborations that also credit his friend SZA – “All the Stars” and “30 for 30.” The latter of them only reached the top last year. Lamar landed on the R&B streaming songs chart with 11 tracks, and eight of them entered the top 10.

Jhené Aiko gets her third #1 R&B streaming ranking

Aiko isn’t far behind her collaborator, and “So Good” marks her third ruler on the R&B Streaming Songs chart. She also topped the tally in 2020 with “BS” alongside HER’s “Post to Be,” directed by Omarion and featuring Chris Brown and Aiko, which spent three frames in power in the spring of 2015.

Aiko may not have as many champions as Lamar, but she’s racked up more top 10s on the R&B Streaming Songs chart than he has total placements. 15 of his 25 tracks on the list reached the highest level. This includes two finalists, “Triggered” and “Ghost.” The latter begins in second place just as “So Good” blocks him from the top.

“So Good” Almost Reigns Second Streaming Chart

“So Good” nearly tops two charts in America, but instead of owning the slightly more comprehensive R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart, it begins its run at #2. Aiko marks her sixth top 10 and reaches a new career high with this collaboration. Previously, “Post to Be” featuring Omarion and Brown was his highest charting hit when it reached No. 3 over a decade ago.

Unsurprisingly, Lamar achieves much more success on the chart, which also takes into account hip-hop and rap tracks. “So Good” is his forty-third top 10 hit and one of only two tracks to reach number two. The collaboration follows “DNA.”, which debuted and settled for No. 2 in May 2017. Among Lamar’s dozens of top 10 hits are eight No. 1s, and that rundown includes several smashes that reigned for months.

Drake’s ‘Janice STFU’ blocks ‘So Good’ from No. 1

Aiko and Lamar are far from dominating the R&B/Hip-Hop streaming songs chart with Drake’s “Janice STFU,” one of the biggest hits from his recent album. Icemanrefuses to move. The ranking measures the most listened to R&B and hip-hop songs in the United States, and for months, Drake’s song has proven largely unbeatable.

“Janice STFU,” one of 29 leading Canadian musician on the list, has now spent 16 weeks leading the group. By reaching this number, the success solidifies his lead in Drake’s discography as the longest-running No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop streaming songs chart.

“So Good” debuts in the Top 10 on three other charts

“So Good” also debuted in the top 10 on the Digital Song Sales, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot R&B Songs charts, arriving at numbers 6, 5 and 3 respectively on those lists. This collaboration gave Lamar his fortieth top 10 hit on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

“So Good” debuts on four more Billboard rosters this week: the Billboard Hot 100, Streaming Songs, Billboard Global 200 and Rhythmic Airplay charts. Notably, the collaboration does not appear on the Billboard Global Excl. In the United States, because it did very well in America, but apparently it wasn’t a big success elsewhere in the world.
