“Saturday Night Live” kicked off its 52nd season Saturday night (duh), and the iconic New York-based show had the perfect host in New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson.
The NBA Finals MVP led the team to its first championship in decades, making him Big Apple royalty and a natural choice to host alongside musical guest KATSEYE (who had never heard of, but is apparently extremely popular).

But the athletes are mixed when they’re cast on “SNL.” Some participants have comedic talents, while others have proven to have the acting ability of a traffic cone.

So what was the case for Brunson?
Well, the first big hurdle was the monologue (after the necessary Trump-centric cold open), which I would say is probably the hardest part of the concert for someone who isn’t a regular performer.
Brunson did well, but it helped bring him back in the form of teammates Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns.
Brunson also did a solid job in his first sketch in which he plays an office guy who just can’t accept that he failed to throw a wrapper into the trash can from across the office.
Of course, there was plenty of basketball, and one of the best examples was a funny pre-recorded skit parodying “High School Musical.”
The NBA star also had a role in a stunning “Shark Tank” parody about two entrepreneurs trying to gain support for a pair of glasses that set off an alarm every time the wearer looks at a woman’s breasts. It was exactly the kind of bizarre sketch that always gets a laugh and often ends up being hilarious.

Overall, I think it’s pretty safe to say that Brunson will easily become one of the best athletes to ever land the hosting job. Maybe not on the level of Peyton Manning (who, for my money, is the best sportscaster of all time), but he certainly held his own.
