Kyle Kennedy, granddaughter of Bobby and Ethel Kennedy, dies at 42
Kyle Kennedy has died. The former New York City educator was 42 years old.
The granddaughter of former Sen. Robert F. “Bobby” Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy died peacefully at her Massachusetts home on Sept. 21, according to her obituary. A private funeral was held. No cause of death has been announced.
She is remembered for being athletic and competitive.
“Throughout her life, she could often be seen outperforming her peers on the playgrounds, soccer and lacrosse fields, while tenaciously pursuing total victory in quieter moments in trivial pursuits or card games,” her obituary states.
Kennedy was a distance runner before suffering a spinal cord injury in 2020 that left her paralyzed along with other medical complications. The year before, she finished the Boston Marathon 20 minutes faster than the time her father Michael recorded before his death in a skiing accident in 1997.
Kennedy’s family credits his “dry wit and determination” with getting him through the years after his injury. She became an advocate for people with disabilities.
Kennedy was born in Washington, D.C., but spent most of her life in Massachusetts. After attending Georgetown, Harvard, and Pace University, she joined Teach for America and spent two years working in the New York City public school system.
She is survived by her two sons, Conor, 12, and Declan, 10. Kennedy was preceded in death by a daughter who died in infancy in 2014. She is also survived by her mother, Victoria, and brother Michael.
